Rejuvenation of the Eyes
Rejuvenation of the skin around the eyes is a common concern.
Why do lines show up there first? 1. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest of any part of the body. 2. We communicate a lot with our eyes: we smile, we squint … and that manifests itself in the fan-like formations of lines around the eyes.
In addition, a natural loss of volume in the cheek area results in hollowness under the eye, the appearance of lines or creepiness of the skin, and shadows from tear troughs. The result is a tired look.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections under the eyes improve skin quality, color and volume.
PRP is a concentration of platelets from the client’s own blood that aid in tissue regeneration. Originally administered to address sports injuries and aid in wound healing, PRP injections draw on the power of growth factors. These growth factors support tissue repair, aid in collagen production, and improve skin thickness and volume. PRP injections can effectively improve the health and appearance of the lower eyelid skin affected by pigmentation and signs of aging.
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a high concentration of platelets surrounded in its own plasma. These contain life-giving fundamental protein growth factors.
How does PRP Eye Rejuvenation work?
A small amount of the client’s blood is drawn and the red cells are isolated from the platelet-rich plasma via centrifugation. Skin Deep Medical Aesthetics uses Eclipse PRP® technology to isolate the human plateles and plasma. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected in the under-eye area to stimulate rejuvenation.
What are the functions of Growth Factors?
Growth Factors regulate the healing cascade by signaling to surrounding cells to repair damaged tissue and regenerate new tissue. Key growth factors involved in this process include but are not limited to:
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)
Promotion of epiphelial cell growth, angiogenesis, wound healing.
Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF)
Tissue repair, cell growth, collagen production
Platelet Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)
Cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production
Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF)
Growth and new generation of keratinocytes
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)
Growth and generation of vascular endothelial cells
Transforming Growth Factor Beta1 (TGF-B)
Growth of epiphelial cells, endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing.
Collagen Stimulating Growth Factor
Stimulates granulocyte and macrophage proliferation for growth of healthy tissue and blood cells.
What can I expect?
PRP injections are administered in a quick in-office visit. After the blood draw, the centrifugation process takes 10 minutes. Dr. Maria Carracino will administer the plasma. The initial swelling is from the added plasma volume in the area. It will subside as the plasma is absorbed by the body.
Are there any risks of allergic reaction?
As the PRP is processed from the client’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
