Liquid Face Lift: The Nefertiti Lift, Platysmal Band Injections and Voluma Lateral Lift
Tweaking the lower face has become increasingly popular in this second decade of the new millennium.* As we age, the overall tightening of the neck and jawline begin to sag, and a chronically downturned mouth or appearance of jowls is one of the top complaints we hear about at Skin Deep Medical Aesthetics.
In the first of our two part series, we will focus on techniques to help achieve that youthful swan-like neck.
The Nefertiti Lift is a technique that has been used formally since 2007 for rejuvenation of the neck and lower face. Nefertiti, whose name means “beautiful one has come,” was the wife of an Egyptian pharaoh who ruled from 1353-1336 BC. Artwork from that era almost always depicts Nefertiti with her husband, and it is thought that she ruled alongside him as her equal. They had six daughters, and after his death it is thought that she ruled as co-regent. In 1913, a statue of her was unearthed and she became an icon of popular culture as one of the most beautiful Egyptian queens.
The Nefertiti Lift refers to injections along the neck and jawline to achieve a sculpted, chiseled look and to lift and tighten the lower face. After consultation with a physician at Skin Deep Medical Aesthetics, the areas are wiped with an alcohol swab and neuromodulator (Botox or Xeomin) is injected along the lower jaw and neck. There usually is minimal pain during the injection, and rarely pinpoint bruising. No more than 15-20 units are injected per side to avoid reversible difficulties in swallowing. The result is a more upturned mouth and tighter jaw, and effects can last on average 4 months.
The Nefertiti Lift can be used alone or combined with filler, and maintenance laser and microdermabrasion for even more exciting results. Our next blog with address techniques to correct that sagging, old-looking neck.
